Please help me with my new female

TheDrew1 Aug 26, 2004 11:51 PM

I got my new three month old female on the 25th and of course she was really stressed by everything. I put her in her new cage and she ate like crazy. Shes also pretty active, but she really doesnt like being misted and i dont have a dripper right now cuz it broke. But whenever i check on her (shes outside) shes sitting in her umbrella plant but shes brown and sometimes has some light very faint black dots. Isnt their relaxed color usually a light green? Is she still stressed? O ya and one time i went out there and i found her on the bottom of the cage wandering around? I dont know what all this means, but its kind of worrying me. But on the other hand shes hydrated and shes been eating crickets (even out of my hand!).

BTW i have her in a 18X18X30 cage, shes got a 60 watt basking bulb, pothos plant (its not that big yet), an umbrella plant, and some branches.

please help me with my new girl.

Thanks

No, UV lighting? When I see my chameleons on the floor they're usually looking for food.

What species do you have? Dark colors and wandering on the floor might mean she's gravid. Not sure though since she's still eating.

It sounds as if she's stressed by something she can see from the cage and she feels too exposed to view. Crawling on the ground might be her way of trying the escape the cage. Watch her...is she trying to paw her way out of the cage? It might be too small or not offer enough seclusion. Try putting something around a couple of sides of the cage to block her view of "the big wide world" and of taller trees that instinct is telling her she should get to. She may be frustrated at not being able to get higher off the ground into the trees in your yard. Add bushier plants.
