Huge "yearling" pics starting to make me nervous

LordDreyfus Aug 27, 2004 05:46 AM

I've seen quite a few pics recently of yearling boas and pythons that were huge for their age. They look to be on track to be breedable by about 18-24 months. Isn't this bad for the snake? I thought that if you powerfed them it cut their lifespan and ultimately baby production.

All my snakes are great eaters. I feed them every 7 days. They prey item is the size of their girth. If they are in shed mode they get skipped for that week. I'm just a little worried because the pics I've seen of monster "yearlings" look to be about 2x the size of mine.

I would not worry about it. I too am sometimes amazed at the size of some of these boas out there. I too feed my boas once a week... but so might those other people that have the HUGE boas =) they could just be giving them more than you and I.
