Tips on handling a female with attitude?

Chameleon996 Aug 27, 2004 07:51 AM

An suggestions would be great. Mt female veiled is a real #!*@%. She bit my husband when she was about four months old and I can't even get my hand close to her. I need to get her out and into a new cage.

I have a veiled and she is pretty mean too. I got a pair of gloves from a hardware store. Its pretty thick and prevents bleeding. I still have not figured out how to get her calm to hold. maybe they just dont like being held.

I get a sturdy stick and then I herd her onto it. I put my hand behind her and lightly touch her tail. She usually hisses and snaps at me but then she runs away, I just steer her in the direction of the stick. Then I move her to where she needs to be. Once out of her cage she stops being so aggressive, she has never snapped at me once she is out.

A big stick! Try to get her to perch like you would try to get a bird to perch (if you have experience with birds). Just push the stick very gently up against her chest or between her front legs and lift up while doing it. I do this for many of my panthers and my one veilied when they're not being nice.

Just don't ever grap them with or without gloves as I think it would really stress them out and cause an even greater fear of being handled. Also be patient, it may take a long time for her to calm down. Though she may never calm down so you may be S.O.L. in that respect.

Can you move her at night? She'll be groggy and will have little reflex. What you could try is put a stick or fake vine where she usually sleeps and see of she will sleep on it. Then, once she has been asleep for awhile just move her, vine and all, to her new location - she'll never know! LOL

Do you find her to be @#$%^^&* all times of the day? I find Luna is most aggressive mid-day and mellows later and of course early in the a.m. just some thoughts...
