what size sterelite/rubbermaid do you use.............

joshhutto Aug 27, 2004 09:07 AM

I'm in the process of building a rack system that will house 20 juve/sub adult bp's and 10 adults. just wondering what size everyone is housing their adult bp's in. I'm having trouble finding anything larger than the sterelite 28 and rubbermaid 31. both have appr. same floor space but the rubbermaid is deeper. any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Myself as well as alot of other breeders use the 41q sterelites Rather then the 31q's. Most have had a but more success in the 41q plus it gives the animals a bit more room. I'm starting on my new rack sometime next week.

We also use the 41qt. Sterilite.
The size is 34 7/8" x 16 5/8" x 6"
We found them at Target. The under bed storage units are similiar but have an uneven bottom because of the wheels.

I prefer the Iris CB-70 to the 41 qt. Sterilite. The CB-70 has sides that don't taper as much and provides a lot more floor area. I also like the reinforced bottom of the tub. They are available at Reptiletubs.com

However, since you're building one rack to hold multiple sizes of BP's, the 41 qt. Sterilite might be a better choice. I say so because it is the same height as the 28 qt. and 12 qt. Sterilites available at Walmart.

If you build your rack so the 41 qt. box slides in width-wise you'll have a very versatile rack.

On each level you could fit three of the 12 qt. boxes, or one 28 qt. and one 12 qt., or one 41 qt.

Sterilite makes other boxes that are very similar to all three listed above. Please make sure you check the heights yourself as I may not have my boxes straight.

Swing on over the the Cage and Habitat Forum if you have any rack questions.

i have a rack like chris described above, the #'s on the tubs are as follows: 41qt....#1960
27 or 28qt. (i can't remember which) ...#1956
12qt....#1954
the #'s are on the sticker and also on the bottom of the tub.have fun!

I'm going to build my own too! I think it's hilarious that we're all building our own at about the same time!

I'm using the 41qt I found at Target, with the lids. I plan on adjusting the shelves of a book case of similar width so they slide in snuggly so the little boogers don't escape (the lids are not that tight on the sides!)

I know I'll use FlexWatt tape: can anyone help me figure out the best way to run it? I thought along bottom of each shelf. Are there different wattages? If so, which should I use?

Thanks!

Here are a few pics of a couple of racks I've built. Two of the racks use the 41 qt. Then I have a hatchling/sub-adult rack that I built. I love using the 41 qt. Sterlite tubs...they work perfectly!

Hope that helps!!

I use belly heat - tried back heat, but I prefer belly heat, as the flexwatt doesn't have to run as hot.

I prefer the Big Apple Herp Power thermostat, or a Helix.

Big Aplle Herp and The Bean Farm carry the different sizes of Flexwatt.

Have fun!
