Too late

timo, my little turtle managed to get himself caught in between his basking area and the wall (on his side??) i have no idea how he got there but he did
when i pulled him out he was still alive but gasping (from his head being partially submerged?) and he died shortly after. I was beginning to regain hope. He got in the water twice today, all by his self! I suppose i'll stick to my boxies from now on and maybe make the 30 gallon a box turtle tank
I'm very saddened and i'm afraid i'm discouraged and scared from owning water turtles. Perhaps its for thebest. I only wish i knew what happened. I need some sort of closure.

perhaps there's some detail we can't pin down, perhaps you were just unlucky with this batch.

A 30 gallon tank should not be used for box turtles. I wouldn't even use it for a group of hatchlings (I have a 40 breeder if I have more than one boxie hatchling, and a 20L if I only have a single hatchling). Box turtles should at least have 10 square feet at a barest minim, each that is. Much larger homes are much better and outdoors is the best.
