QUESTION: Small desert dwelling lizards.

kevie Aug 27, 2004 02:37 PM

Hey, I was wondering if anyone can give me some names of some readily available small desert dwelling lizards. I'm looking to keep some and I haven’t decided what I'd like yet. I'd probably keep them in at least a 20 gallon long, maybe something a little bigger. Any suggestions would be great.

(Don't worry; I plan on doing plenty of research before making any purchases.)

Thanks for any ideas.

Also, does anyone know the smaller varieties of uros? And how large they get?

i've never heard of a uro that can fit in a 20.... but maybe a collard lizard? if you wouldn't mind using repti-carpet as substrate then a leopard gecko?

desert lizard. I have alot of them, their colors are so diverse and beautiful.

They are great little pets if handled regularly, very tame.

They are extremely active and fun to watch

I have many lizards but have chosen these to breed. I think you would enjoy them alot.
A 20 gallon would do for one or a pair, but a 30 or bigger would be much better.

Always remember bigger is better when it comes to room, these guys use every bit, they run, jump, and love to move all the time.

Good luck with your quest to find a cool desert lizard.
I have a few different species, Uromastyx, desert iguana, and chuckwallas as well. They all are very awesome.

But I think for the size tank you talked of and size, its the collared.

I was thinking collared, but I thought they needed a little more room to run. I wouldn't want to keep them in a tank that restricted their running.

Leopard geckos are a large possibility though. Anyone else have any suggestions?

A pair of leopard lizards could live in a 20L, but a 30L would be better. keep them really hot with rocks to climb on and hide under. But no, sorry no uro can live in a 20L

A swift lizard would do allright as well a tree lizard or a smaller dessert skink. Dessert skinks are really cool, maybe try the barrel skink

I didn't really mean are there any uro's that can be houses in a 20G. I was wondering what the smaller uro species were. Is there one specific species that stays smaller then the rest? Or do they all grow to about the same size?
