August 9 in Southern Arizona. A few years ago, I posted a note offering advice on where to go, for those visitors who needed a tip to help them enjoy their time here. That post didn't include any localities that were not already well-known and accessible enough to render keeping them quiet moot. Regrets for today's reticence, but a very good day was had in places still largely undiscovered, and I will not be disclosing precise localities this time. Bygones.
Leaf-Nosed Snake (Phyllorhyncus browni) found after dark on a road ride.

Particularly fine Longnosed Snake from the same ride.

Very nice Glossy from same ride.

Magnificent Regal Ringneck--different locality, same weekend.

Nice Black-Necked Garter, same weekend.

Outstanding Blacktailed Rattler--same day.

Dealer's choice--saved the best for last. Common enough in Mexico, bloody rare in Arizona, a Brown Vine Snake.

The last thing a lizard ever sees...
