I am also working on putting together a site on Dumerils care and info. They are great monitors if cared for properly.

I am very fond of my Dumeril (Charlie) and have owned him/her since early December. I got Charlie with the red/orange head at 4-6 weeks of age. Charlie is now probably 16-19” nose to tail and lives in a 75 gal tank with 8-9” of good substrate, 2 large grape vine trunks, lots of foliage for climbing and hiding, a large pool that he gets into 1-3 times a day, a basking spot of 100-130 and the cool side of the tank is 75-80. I feed h/r 3 fussies every other day and unfortunately I rarely get to see h/h. I used to dig h/h out of h/h burrows every other day or so to try and allow h/h to become familiar with me. About 3-4 months ago I gave up and just leave Charlie allow growing up to hopefully gain some confidence with size. Charlie has never bitten me or been anything but great however I was looking for a lizard I could interact with a little more. In April I goy a Tegu that now at 30” has free roam of an entire room all day and the house when I am home. I still think Dumerils are a great monitor to keep and realize every animal has a different personality but I have read that Dumerils are very secretive in the wiled and I have found Charlie very secretive in captivity.
Below is a picture of Charlie the last time I had h/h out back in April. I would be very interest to hear what other Dumeril keepers have experienced with their animals.

they like water...love to dig...neat monitors...billy
