Info needed on ringnecks

snakecharmed Jun 25, 2003 04:18 AM

Does anyone here keep ringnecks or know of a good site that has info like habitat, diet (I've heard that they eat salamanders, but will they take other prey?) Any help would be greatly appreciated, I rescued a ringneck from a neighbors cat and it's wounded, I would like to get it back to health but I have been told that this species is somewhat difficult to keep as captives. Thanks, Christy

First of all take care of the wound. Until the wound heals, I would keep it on papertowels but provide a lot of hides. Mine loves to soak in its waterbowl so provide a nice sized, shallow one. I do not use heat at all and mine stopped eating when I did. It eats skinks, worms, and small frogs but they will take salamanders and possibly other snakes as well. They are rearfanged but not dangerous...the ones I keep have never tried to bite. When the wound heals, I would keep it on bed a beast or eco earth or forest bed, whatever you want to call it. Keep it slightly moist but not saturated. Andy
