Feeding for Baby B&W teg (argentine)

dmlove Aug 27, 2004 10:54 PM

Well my baby tegu is doing great! Still edgy in the cage and whippy, but once out, he just wants to explore! He is on paper towels, but i am getting some cypress. He doesnt seem to like soaking that much. Well, he wont touch supers, but eats his crickets, and today he just demoloshed some grapes that in put in there (cut in small pieces of course)...he didnt touch apples though. Is this alright? I would get some turkey mash or whatever, but idk i dont have any freezer space for that one way (mentioned below) for freezing it in cubes, and i only have the one baby , named him Morpheous!

Thanks

I have read that they do well on cricketts alone for a while till they are large enough that they are eating cricketts by the dozen and wanting more. That is the point where you can start with pinkie mice and so on. You could also try egg for your little guy. Mine love it but I do not feed it often as I do not want them getting hooked on it.
As for the apple mine will not eat apples either. The fruits that I would try for are the ones more that are higher in vitamin C. and other tropical fruits. Good luck to you.

There are some that say you have to handle them daily. Now while I try to do that it does not always work out for me. Life gets in the way sometimes. There are times when I have had to work from 06:00 till almost midnight. Well by that time my guys are sleeping themselves. Now there was a little interaction when I go home to feed at lunch time. But as for holding them I did not get to do it.
My four are the sweetest most mellow animals I have ever owned. They go with me alot of places and have never tried to bite or tail whip. So do not beat yourself up if you miss a day here or there. The important thing is to not make it a habbit of missing days handling your little guy. Good luck

It is awesome that you managed to get him to eat fruit already, I couldnt get meego to touch fruit for months and months!!

Scrambled, or hard boiled eggs are an option also.
