tragic loss, now out for a "sunfire" (help)

spottedragon Aug 28, 2004 10:50 AM

My baby bearded dragon had a tragic accident with my ignorant mother and now he lays 9 inches under in a garden i have built for him. I'm giving it time to set in before i get another. I dont think im the type of person to get the same thing twice so im going to see about getting a "sunfire" morph, i think that's what it's called. Anyway, im sure u know what im talking about, and if not, the red and orange beardies... Im going to a reptile show in Ozark missouri to get one in october. Does anybody know what i should look for in finding one such as, what kind of price should i expect for a 6 or 7 month old? How will i know a fake from a real (with the diff vitamins they can be given to enhance their colors for a while)? Do they act different from regular morphs? Also, a little off the subject, do males act diff from females (in any morph)?
Thank You

Sorry you lost your buddy. That's really tough. When and Where in the Ozarks is the show? I live in Missouri and would like to go. I only know of one breeder for sure maybe two in MO. Price will depend on the dragon. The color, genetics and the individual selling the dragon. The good thing is you can actually see the dragon in person but theres no garantee on how they have raised him. You can ask and hope you get straigh forward answers. Things I would look at would be the poo (if there is any) digits, fullness of the body, skin. Do a pinch test and make sure the pinch fills right back out so you can check for hydration. Thats all I can think of right now.
Again sorry for you loss. It will take time.
Take care,
Karen

I think you are talking about a Sandfire dragon. They come in a variety of colors from reds, yellows, oranges and combinations of both. I'm not sure which show you are refering to in the Ozarks but I know there is one in Springfield in late Sept. and maybe one in Warrensburg in Oct. There will also be one two in the Kansas City area in Sept. I will be attending some of these shows and will have some yellow and orange babies available from Sandfire lines. The prices from anyone will range from $40-$200 depending on size and color intensity. Feel free to contact me as I know of several other breeders who will have very nice babies available at these mentioned shows.
