Moving to a bigger enclosure

shyguy4217 Aug 28, 2004 12:39 PM

Now that my JCP is a yearling I'm thinking about moving him/her to a larger enclosure. My uromastyx died a couple months ago and I now have this beautiful empty 47x22x15 enclosure just sitting there taking up space and now that my JCP is getting bigger I figured that I should take him out of that 10 gallon aquarium that I raised him in and treat him with some extra space.

But my question is would that be too much of a change/shock to him?

Also, the enclosure is acrylic and I was wondering if a heatpad would melt the bottom, not if it was controlled with a rheostat right?

And one more question, would that size enclosure be sufficient to house an adult JCP? What about an adult pair?

Sorry for all of the questions and thanks for any replies

A cage of that size is a bit too large for a yearling carpet. I would partition it off and make two or three cages out of it.

You should be fine with a heat pad with or without a rheostat, but some can malfunction and fry, so it's best to use one.

It would be plenty for an adult carpet of any kind, and possibly a pair, but it's not the best idea to house snakes together. Search the forum, I am sure there are tons of posts detailing why.

On the Cage Sixe I like to use a taller cage 15" aint that big if possible you could build or get and add on cause JCP's love to have some height in there cage since they are slighty arborial i also have a hug cage for my young JCP's and i sectioned it into half so i only use half of it for my two so you should probably split it into 2 and that should be fine and you could easily house a pair in that size of cage but if 2 females i suggest seperation cause they get territorial
