Seeking opinions for using Aspen shavings as substate? Good or Bad?

JDalbo Aug 28, 2004 01:40 PM

Today I've switched from Nature Bark to Aspen shavings and was wondering if this was a good idea? I found a small splinter in one of my snakes from the Nature Bark. I notice alot of the snakes at reptile shows are using what appears to be aspen. I would appreciate any feedback good or bad, with others' experiences using this as a substrate. I know it reduces humidity and I use humidity boxes as shedding nears.

I use it, and know alot of people who use it, but some brands have aspen mites which are a pain in the ass.
They are not parasitic like snake mites, however, the mites will seek refuge in the snakes eye sockets.
Good luck

Never heard of them, thats a new one. Aspen and pine shavings is all I use. Snakes love to crawl under them and real easy to spot clean.
