Brand New BD... have sum questions...

funnyman527 Aug 28, 2004 03:12 PM

Ok, so i just got my second BD yesterday, and i've got her in my 10 gallon baby tank.

She's 10 inches long, but hasn't begun to get any girth yet, so the tank is still big enough for her.

But i wanted to kno how much longer (after the quarantine period) i shoulkd wait b4 introducing her with my other girl (who's 14 inches, and has begun to get girth)?

Assume she'll be atleast a foot plus by that time.

thx.

Here's a pic of my 14 incher...

You should really wait 30 days and some reccomend 60 before introducing them together for quarntine reasons. After at least 30 days what you most need to be concerned with is their size diffeence. If one is a good bit bigger than the other it could be too stressful to keep them together for the smaller one. It could also lead to stunting her growth a bit as she may not get as much to eat due to competetion or just lack of eating from stress. It is very possible to do what you want but they need to be close to equal size. The younger you get them together the better chance in them getting along as adults.

well im planning on waiting atleast 30 days, but really i'm waitin until my new BD is within say 2 inches of my bigger one.

The funny thing is, that my BD's are clutchmates, and the new one i got is smaller b/c it was sharing an enclosure with 5 other dragons. so they are litterally days apart, but their sizes are so much diff. Also my 14 incher is huge for her age (4 months)

I just took my new BD outta her cage and held her up to my 1st Bd (on the outside of the cage) and my olerger one puffed out her beard, i kno that this is just her sayin, "Im #1" but would this also mean that she would attack my newer one? I also witnessed my newer one doing the submissive arm waving from her tank. I wont be introducing them to eachother in the same cage for quite awhile, but is there anythign i can do to prep both dragons for it?

thx

You can try keeping their tanks next to each other so they can interact through the glass. Again though just monitor it and make sure the smaller one isn't getting too stressed.

Remember the quarantine period is not just a set time. It is period were you can observe the dragon for any health related issues. On top of that the animal should have a fecal done before the animal is introduced to any in your present collection. If the animal comes out to have high parasite counts than you will have to wait longer to introduce them. The time is a minimum of thirty days but could be as long as it takes to lower the animals parasitc load.
