Holdback quality vs. Pet quality ( you may not believe this)

rujonesin Aug 28, 2004 03:45 PM

These two babies are from the same clutch. They hatched within two days of each other. They have been fed the exact same diet (obviously one is eating more though)and kept under the the exact same conditions. They were separated some time ago to be kept with similar sized animals. I placed the larger one with a couple holbacks that are a month older than her and she passed them in size too. At about 9 weeks old the larger one is 60 grams and the smaller one is 6 grams. The next biggest dragon from the clutch is 34 grams so she is about twice the size of her and 10X the size of this "runt". Ironically my only tail loss this season (other than minor nips) was on this giant girl. You might notice the color difference of the two futhering the notion of her being a definate "holdback". Just FYI, the smaller dragon was packed with crickets prior to taking this shot so my larger female didn't suffer another tail nip. Actually they were both well fed to reduce any chance of an accident.

Holly Cow Mike!! LOL that is a huge girl and deffinatly a keeper... Its weird how the growth rate can be so different amongst clutch mates, but that one is huge compared to her little sis hehe. I hope the little one starts catching up soon .. You'll see the smaller one will end up being larger in the long run The large one is a pretty dragon. Good Pick for a holdback. I have some pretty big spreads in sizes too, but none 10x bigger LOL. I think mine range from 15 inches 140 grams the big orange female "blaze" pictured below got measured and weighed today down to 10 inches and 35 grams the smallest at 14 weeks of age.
