Treefrog missing a foot!!!

Paullywog Aug 28, 2004 04:31 PM

I looked in my pond today and huddled up near a rock was a pacific treefrog with a missing front left foot! (or hand lol) but i feel sorry for him. Is there anything i should do? I wonder if it would adapt to captivity well or is that a good idea? I just feel sorry for him and thought i'd let you know about it.

if it has survived this long with out it then i doubt it is in need of any care, i would just let it be

Well it is a tiny baby that grew up just this year. I just wondered. I think ill keep it unless theres a really good reason NOT to... if anyone knows any tips on how to keep one that would be cool... i wont keep it if it is too hard to take care of or doesnt adapt to captivity well. I just figured i could try keeping one and let it go back in my pond if it gets skinny or stressed. I dont have it in any enclosure right now i just see the little guy under a rock a lot so dont go yelling at me lol. IF they really shouldnt be kept i will not keep it.

A really good reason not to keep it is b/c it is being taken from its wild home, and what comes from the wild should stay in the wild. If you want a tree frog get something that is captive bred.

Last November I purchased two Red Eyes from the Reptile Show, and didn't realize until the way home that one was missing a foot, Well, its almost a year now and "3-Foot" seems to be doing just fine!! Hops around like its not missing anything!

as long as its not an injury and it was born that way it should be fine. it could have been caused by anything.pollution, genetics, or my guess, inbreeding.
