Sad day...my snakes got to go

toddbecker Aug 28, 2004 07:10 PM

Well as most of you know I am in the military, and I just found out that I am going to go back to Iraq for another year. Now I am not so much complaining about the fact that I have to return to Iraq. I mean it is my job and I did volunteer for it (hell I have been doing it for 12 years) but it means that I am going to have to part with my 3 burms. My wife (who despises snakes) can not adequately care for them (they are to big for her) so it leaves me no other choice but to sell them. Everything has kind of changed over the last six months. I was working hard at trying to fund and start a small breeding business but have come to the revalation that it will be to hard to try and do while I am still in the military. Instead I am going to wait until I am almost out (about 5 more years) and then I am going to once again start with the burms and tics. I will still come here and offer whatever advice I can and enjoy the companionship. You are all great and I love the pics of everyones snakes. Todd

That sucks man, well in my eyes, but thats life I guess. I can't relate to you with the military but it's gotta be hard on you and real hard on your wife. It's beyond awesome that you do this crap for your country with no questions asked. You've always been a big help to people on this forum and will miss the advice, good luck on your journey back to Iraq and hope to hear from you soon. ~Matt

Sorry to hear about this Todd but you certainly have an excellent perspective on things. If you ever need any nice burms (or other large constrictors) when you are done serving, let me know as our wildlife center seems to always be taking some real nice specimens that we try to adopt out (and this offer doesn't apply to anyone else here!). You've been a great contributor to this forum and we'll keep you and your family in our prayers for safety and a quick and safe return from Iraq.

Thank you everyone for all of your kind words and support. You all have no idea how comforting all the support is when so many people are against this action it is good to hear that some still respect what us soldiers do. Thanks again. Todd

Hey, Todd...We've been reading your posts all along, and we would love to help you out. We are in Central NJ; could we foster one of your snakes until you get back? We have experience with large retics & burms. Let us know....

PS....Thanks for defending our country; whatever you decide, you will be in our thoughts.

Yea, I knwo that it must realy suck. At least it is for a good cause though. My uncle was gone for a year and got back not to long ago. My dad almost had to go but he has had open heart sugery and they would not let him go. He was mad but I sure was not. Take care and good luck to you and your animals.
