Is this set up sufficient for cresteds???

Psylynt Aug 28, 2004 08:25 PM

I'm very interested in building a naturalistic setup for my cresteds. Right now they're in a 50 gal. long.

Was surfing the web the other day & saw a great how to on a vivarium for dart frogs. It looks really neat, I'm attempting to build something similiar. If you have a min. to check the website out below & then I've got a couple of questions below that.

http://www.blackjungle.com/gallery/talltank/page1.html

1. I'm almost positive a set up like this would be much too humid/wet for crested, am I right, or is it okay? If this is too humid/wet, would 1 or 2 streams be okay? Maybe have 2 misters on timers that go off couple of times a day?

2. Would cresteds drown if they fell in the water? (was thinking I could possible raise the level of gravel above the height of the pump, & keep the water level a 1/2 inch or so above the gravel height to avoid drowning)

3. Anyone notice any plants toxic to cresteds in this setup?

4. Was thinking about housing a pair of uroplatus henkeli in the setup w/ the cresteds. My enclosure will be about 32" wide X 30" tall X 14" thick. Is this a bad idea? Will they fight?

Any help, ideas, comments are all appreciated.

the idea you are talking about is something that i wentoff of for when i built my crestie greenhouse i have found that it helps 2 greatly increase my breeding sucess ( can be argued that because of the size of it and the 22 cresteds (at last count) in it there is a more natural feel 2 it) the humidity can be modified even if you put that kinda streams in by simply useing the urn ons/off that you can get for 1/4 inch dripline and control it that way
