Is this an appropriately sized meal? (pictures)

hey guys, I just got this little male at the tuscan reptile show today. I've never had a python before, does this mouse look ok in size for my snake?

here is a picture of one of the frozen mice I got today as well. The person who sold me the snake said he was feeding on little mice, but this mouse seems pretty big

and here are some pictures of the python

finally here is a picture of my 8$ temp. wal-mart cage. He keeps climbing up into the little ledge on the top of the box, it's a really small space up there, he isn't going to get stuck or hurt himself is he?

thanks!,
Mike

if the diameter of the mouse is slightly smaller than the diameter of your snakes midsection, you should be fine. from the pics you should be good to go.

The mouse looks to be a good size but he may be able to eat just a little bit larger. Gauge the size of the mouse by the size of the largest part of the snakes midsection. Don't worry too much about the snake crawling about the top of the cage. Mine did that as well for about 6 months until he got too big. Now he doesn't even pay any attention to high places. Like to stay in his warm hide. The only concern is that the top needs to be on snug so that he can't push up on the corners.

he won't get hurt and will eventually stop wedging himself up there, but you want to make sure the top is escape proof. Even though the lid snaps shut, the middle sides of the lid are loose and he can squeeze throught. I've solved this problem and made my tubs escape proof by drilling holes through the sides of the lid and through the container. Then I use flatheat screws to pin the lid to the container in the middle of both sides. It looks like he could use a larger bowl of water. I think you have the right size mice. Just feed him the smaller ones first and work up to the larger ones.

that's what I feed my bp. she's about the same size. a good thing to keep in mind is that the food should be about the same thickness as the largest part of the snake. smaller is ok (be careful of underfeeding though) but anything larger than that could cause regurgitation which, in my opinion, is not a fun thing to clean up!

good luck
