Hey good luck. I have spent alot of time over the last two years looking for sites with information on Tegus not just breeding but anything I could find. Wild habitat, lifecycles etc. I have also purchased most of the books, and magazines with any thing in them about tegus. I have read all I can on this site and asked a ton of questions here.
What I am getting at is that there seems to be a lack of information out there about this. Also there seems to be some information out there that is not exactly correct. As was just discussed a few strings down. Some say that they have to hibernate, others have had breedings with out. It is hard to say. Good luck if in your search you come across a site please post it on here so that we may all learn from it. But in my search I have found nothing. Good luck

Thx Beau
Well Since the Blues are more tropical then the argentine B and W I dont think they would need to be hibernated but I dont really know.

I believe you are right with the fact that blues are a subspecies of the columbian tegu. And the tropical ones do not require hibernation. I am not sure though if a brumation or cooling is required to induce the breeding response like they do with snakes from that area. It is all relative to your animals too. If you are wanting to breed and you have two that are the right size and age for it then I would say try to cool the tank a little. I would do this slowly over a few weeks till the tank is cool. Do not get it cold but cool withing safe temps I would not go below 70. Then maybe after a week or so at that temp slowly bring the temps back to normal and see what happens. Please keep in mind I have not done any breeding with tegus. This is pure speculation on my part based on breeding techniques with large boas from that same part of the world. I am by no means an authority on this. But since my searches on the net have proven nothing. This is my best educated (Or not) guess. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.
