First shedding possible problems

tredding Aug 29, 2004 12:44 AM

Well my new ball shed for the first time for me. It all came off but it was in pieces. I have her in a 10 gallon aquarium while I am constructing the new cage. I am using aspen shavings. She is about 18 inches long. I mist the cage twice a day. otherwise she is in good fat health. she even ate while shedding with clouded eyes. Any suggestions?

that was the same with mine. I also found a solution. fill the bathtub deep enough that the whole snake can get wet and let it soak for 20-30 minutes. do NOT leave the snake unattended. most bp's freak out when they are in water but they should calm down pretty soon. most snakes dont like to be held during the shedding cycle, but yours might be an exception. dont worry about misting the cage as long as you have her soak every day that she's in the shedding cycle. misting is usually unnessacary and can sometimes cause resperatory infections. make sure that the humidity in the cage is no more that 60%. 50% is good, 40% is kinda low. keep it higher that 40%. I dont mist my bp and she's doing pretty well.
well I hope this helped!
good luck with the next shedding.

one more thing... never peel the shedding off. it will expose underdeveloped skin and scales. mites love the easiest way to food.
