GTP Life Expectancy

Henry Capobianco Aug 29, 2004 08:12 AM

Greetings all. I'm back after a long absence with a question for the troops:

What is the average life expectancy in captive GTPs?

I appreciate your input. Thanks.

If properly cared for, males can live for quite a bit longer than females producing clutches. Per Eugene Bessette the average female chondro produces six clutches in her lifetime. Some produce more, some less. If you don't breed females they'll probably live just as long as males. Males probably live as long as other pythons, 20 plus years. Trooper posted a thread about the SCZ line of green trees, and the founding Sedgewick County Zoo male which was produced in the 70s is still kicking today. Hope that helps, though I'm much less qualified to answer this than Trooper lol.
