Someone posted not long ago that Russians are easy to sex. I just got 3, and I am confused. If you go by the shape of the plastron near the tail, looks like 2 boys and a girl, however, on another site I read that the females have short thick tails with long claws on the rear legs, looking at it that way, they are ALL girls. Anyone that can help me out on this would be greatly appreciated. By the way, they are all of big enough size to be reliably sexed (they are about 9-11 yrs old).

I had the same question and saw that site. My vet says my Russian is a girl - even though that website (and one other) would lead me to believe boy.
I go back in 2 weeks and will be asking again for more info as to why the vet believes I have a girl. I'll let you know what I find out!

My vet said that too, when I first got my Russian. I think he was basing it on the flat plastron. You can always tell by the tail length though.
