What could this be? (pic)

yano Aug 29, 2004 12:08 PM

I believe my leopard gecko may be developing a skin disorder, and I was interested in opinions.

This leo is Lindsey, a one year old female. As you can see by the image attached, light spots have appeared on the area(s) surrounding the left eye. This has just begun to develop very recently. I thought it may be calcium dust from sloppy eating, but the spots to not rub off (at least not with easy pressure which I tried).

I also noticed the nose is becoming a darker color, almost a reddish-brown.

She shares an enclosure with a sub-adult male. Neither of the two has demonstrated any aggression toward the other; but I am wondering if this is what it looks like after a fight.

She had a clean shed 10 days ago; so I do not believe this is related to shedding. Her appetite is normal; 15 minutes of eating gut loaded mealies (sometimes dusted) 3 times a week.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Looks like dead skin. Maybe left over from shedding, maybe the male bit while trying to mate, etc. Doesn't look like a problem to me.

1. Separate her from the male.
2. Take her to the vet.

The vet would be able to tell you for sure, but it kind of looks like dead skin.

I think the male bit her, are there scratches on her back too?

No her back is normal.

I was just waching her for about 1/2 hour, and she was rubbng the spot on the wall of her enclosure. I am hoping it is dead skin that she is tring to remove. I'm going to keep an eye on her this evening. I have the picture from earlier today, so I can do a comparison with how she looks in the morning and see it the condition is getting worse.
