More taeniura and bimaculata baby pics...

Terry Cox Aug 29, 2004 01:19 PM

Thought I'd post a couple more of my baby pics. These are lighter colored babies from my calico-het fem. x hypo male. They're not that much different really, but look lighter in person...

They've all shed and are eating well.

Here's one of the babies from my 'blonde' female, Chinese twin-spotted ratsnake x blonde-het male. It's hard to tell this early whether the trait is genetic or just a phase, but the babies look like they'll have nice color. This species tends to have dark babies that lighten after a couple months...

Twin-spotted ratsnakes are very underrated. They are hardy and have lots of other good qualities. I think they make a cool companion snake to my corn snakes. Maybe someday they'll catch on better.

The Beauty Snake complex has certainly caught on well but the other Old World ones eill get there. All fo yours are great models to tempt those of us who haven't taken the plungs. Are the Situla pics inbound? Those are gorgeous snakes.

Thanks, Mark. The beauty snakes are well accepted and make a great subject for investigation, etc. It's hard sticking with the other species when they don't catch on right away. But I have a couple I like anyway and have been breeding for going on ten yrs. now. Maybe when the colors are better they'll do better.

I love taking photos too, so I'm sure there's more of those in the future. Ever since I got my new digital last winter I've been accumulating tons of new files. It's just a matter of time before I hit all my snakes. Thanks for the encouragement. Today is my first day back teaching though, so you might not see me as often on the forum.

Good luck with your snakes...and above all, have fun..heheh

I have a pair of bimaculatas that I really like. They are hardier than I thought and are great eaters.

Great, Terry. Do they do well in their surroundings? I'd like to see pics of them someday.
