smaller line of white throats

varanidfan Aug 29, 2004 03:24 PM

i was interested of a pair of white throat monitors, and the seller had informed me that they are 3ft give or take at 3 and half years old, and that they will not grow much larger because they are of a smaller line, does this sound correct, im a little bit weary, just wondering, thanks in advance

I'd say you're being swindled.... it's the same as, "oh yeah, he won't get any bigger if you keep him in a 10gallon...bla bla bla.."

Be careful and skeptical of what people tell you, in an effort to sell you something...especially somebody who isn't physically breeding them his/herself...

Same thing goes for all of those "captive bred" niles and savanahs that dealers and pet shops are selling....geee.... I wonder who's been breeding all of these??? They all said it was a "friend" of theirs... and no, they don't have pics of the eggs/breeding/etc...

Unless this is some "new" locality, where animals are naturally smaller, which I doubt from the sounds of your predicament, I'd say he's full of horse poop... How would he know anyway? Exporters can tell the importeres whatever they hell they want to, in an effort to make a buck...

Be careful, there are a lot of shady people who misrepresent what they sell....

Take care,

bob

wow, reputation is good for nothing nowadays... : )

he is referring to a pair of Whitethroats that we have, which are captive bred by Frank Retes, and they are indeed a very small line.

what are your breeders Frank? 3 ft? that is about what these really gorgeous banded adult Albigs are. oh well, he wants to back out gracefully, that's too bad

there are indeed LOTS of swindlers out there, and LOTS of wild caught "uscb" animals. these are not those, and we are not it.

4.5ft long I believe. A good friend has a male from him that was someone elses for 16 months almost, he was 18.5 inches long at 18 months old, now hes around 3ft at around 3 years old. He grew alot after I obtained him for my friend, hes a bit small and a brave animal at that, in that animals mind hes 10ft long, lol. I believe Rob Fausts male banded WT breeders were only 4ft long (like "Dozers" cross son Shadow), they were Pete Zupich WTs. They are a bit smaller than the typical 4-6ft length.

They normally start breeding from, 22 to 28 inches in total lenght.

Males do indeed get around 4 feet. But also breed at less then 3 feet.

And these animals came from Rich Ile, when he had a shop, and they were sold to him as a small race. Indeed they are.

Thanks FR
