I just use regular playsand from LOWES, .99 for a 50lb. bag! Actually I don't like using sand but since I made the rock wall it looked a little out of place sitting on gray zoomed reptile carpet...I wanted a more natural look, but I will be keeping an eye on him as to assure he isn't ingesting any sand....

I wouldnt really worry about him getting impacted from the playsand from the local lowes/home depot they seem to be pretty small and his size I wouldnt concern that much but there is always that chance, but yeah it looks a lot better then it would with a boring grey carpet :D I switched over to paper only for the parasite reason at the same time i switched over to pellets. If you had sifted the sand before you put it in there ( which would take forever with all that sand ) then you wouldnt really have to worry at all, the sand is pretty fine.

Good luck and enjoy that " Beauty " both cage and animal :P
