Nostral Concern...

funnyman527 Aug 29, 2004 05:37 PM

Hi, im not able to get a decent pic of it, so it'll just describe it as well as i can.

In my BD's right nostral there seems to be mucus or something in it, liek she's conjested, but then she con make it disappear and make everythign look normal?

Is there something wrong with my BD? Or coudl this perhaps be a flap that lizards use to block off their nostrals while swimming?

Can someone plz help me?

thx in advance

Well just make sure the humidity is slow as they can help cause respiratory infections and if its a baby the basking temp should be around 110 degrees as long as it isn't making any raspy noises when its breathing and as long as you don't see again it should be fine.

The nostril scale goes right into the nostril & when they shed a trumpet shaped piece of shed comes out. It is totally normal. Sometimes you'll catch them take a gasp of air because they are not getting enough through their nose.

Now, if you are actually seeing a liquid discharge then that is something totally different & will need proper Vet. Care.

Good luck & keep us updated.

I was thinking the same thing. Nose plugs are natural and nothing to worry about. It's nothing but the skin inside the nose shedding. The plug will fall off naturally.

Or coudl this perhaps be a flap that lizards use to block off their nostrals while swimming?

Yes this is the case. Bds have a little flap of skin that they can close when they are digging or under water for obvious reasons. It is more apparent on some BDs. The fact that it disappears and then comes back leads me to believe that this is what you are writing about.
