Hybrids suck first off, shouldn't be messing with them imho. Anyways only one i know that has produced them is Dr. Frankenstein's Creations. There are NONE for sale. I have heard he has been givin very generous offers as they are one of a kind, but still has declined. They are not easy to get breeding and fertile eggs from what i have heard.

theres nothing good about mutts even if it is pretty. It is still a mutt and mutts SSSUUUCCCKKK stop playing God ,because your not!!!!!!!

Stop playing god? By "playing god" would include even keeping any snakes. I dont see why people are so bitter agains breeding animals that are in no threat of becoming extinct now if it was breeding a Hog Island Boa to say a Longicuada i could see people being up set.

Who cares? Its really no big deal. These snakes are fine, not being released into the wild. And there being very well treated. If you dont want a hybridized snake, dont get one. But if some people like it, you cant change their mind obviously. Personally, Ive seen a bloodxball, and I think its butt ugly. But the bateater is quite pretty. Hybridizing snakes is quite interesting, but I dont think its going to get THAT carried away like some of you guys make it out to be. As long as someone is sticking up for a certain species (pure carpets for example) they will always remain existent.

Why on earth would you do this?

is it not enough to have beautiful blood pythons?

Why hybridize when the blood python is very close to becoming endangered in its natural habitat due to over hunting for the leather industry?

Hybrids are a waste of time, wether theyre beautiful or not. Keep things pure. Our animals are perfect the way they are, why mess with nature?

Just my $.02.

I wouldnt hybridize unless it was reproductive I guess. Its like getting a mule...you know that was never going to breed ever again. Personally, Im not offended by the ball blood cross. I think it is very stupid looking but its interesting to me. On the other hand, if it cant reproduce, then I would like to see a stop to it. If the stop doesn't happen, then oh well. I dont think the more bloodxballs we make is going to effect their wild numbers. Its like when my mom always said "there are starving kids in Africa who would die to eat that" -I would always say they're not going to eat even if I do finish this meal, so that is no glimmer of hope.

By messing with nature it woud have to be in Nature, they are caged animals they are not in there natural habitat.

VoodooDragon May 18, 2003 04:49 PM

Yick. I just hope that fails (which it most likely will, since it's only been done, what once or twice?). I'm not against breeding for color or pattern (unless said breeding happens so quickly with so much inbreeding that it weakens huge numbers of animals, like Albino Burms). But once you start breeding different species, or even subspecies (BCI BCC), that's when I get annoyed. I mean, these animals are beautiful in the first place, why go out and make entirely new species? it's like that Tiger/Lion mix. It's like, people can't be happy with what they CAN do, so they go out and mix species just to prove they can. Arrogance. The first person I see who tries to breed a boa with a python's getting a kick in the teeth.

I really dont care what you think and if It does happen cool, I like both species I cannot see why some people are so narrow minded. There are plenty of these animals anway they are not on the brink of extinction!

These anti Hybridization threads are almost as anoying as a creationalism verses evolution arguement.

Someone mentioned about bloods being endagnered, and we should only breed bloods. Even if there are millions of pure bloods in captivity, they may still become extinct in the wild, and captive bred snakes are not allowed to be put back into their native environment. That is the sad truth.

Hybridization does occur in nature. It can only occur with two species of the same genus (So no, nobody will be getting a kick in the teeth if they breed a boa to a python, because nothing will happen) with the same number of chromosomes. That means that the two species are very closely related anyway, ans may very well have evolved from the same ancestrial species.

It is not bad at all if you create hybrids. As someone said, they are in captivity, not nature. Even if they were out in the wild, they wouldnt be able to reproduce, so it wouldnt take over the niche that its relatives are currently located in.

People should just calm down. This is a matter of personal opinion. People shouldnt try to justify it as being wrong in gods eyes or some other nonesense along those lines.

::well as I see it this , I think this is a new way to make new morphs, hear me out. If you can breed a pie-bald ball with a normal blood, than that blood's brood would be 50% het for pie-bald, and later making the first pie-bald blood python.
