Get dragons used to eachother...

funnyman527 Aug 29, 2004 10:34 PM

any techniques or methods of getting two dragons used to eachother??

ive got boht their tanks near eachother so they can safely interact from a distance, and i've been holding one dragon on the outside of the other one's tank. But the bigger dragon always puffs up and bob's its head, and sumtimes lunges at the other dragon, but not with its mouth open liek it was gunna bite, just liek it was gunna head-butt it.

any advice?

thx

It takes time for two dragons to get used to eachother. NOt sure what the relative ages and sizes are for these two dragons or their sex. Two adult males will not look favorably on eachother no matter what you try. It's very rare that two males will live in peace in the same enclosure. Even two female dragons may never get along. Dragons by nature are not very social animals, interacting typically for breeding purposes only. The head bobbing and arm waving are gestures of dominance and submission, often seen during breeding season as well. If both are too young for that (both under a year old) then it is just d/s.

both are female, and both under a year old.

the smaller of the two is 11 inches, and the larger probly 14.5 inches.

i kno the size diff. is a great factor in the not gettign along, that's why they're in seperate cages, but both are the same age (clutch mates infact) but my smaller one i just recently got, and shared an enclosure with 6 other dragons (thats why she's so much smaller than my 14.5 incher)

can a dominant and submissive female live together if both are equal size?

Females can usually work it out between them, but you'll want to keep a close eye out for any signs of actual aggression (i.e. biting). In addition, you'll want to provide two prime basking spots and probably two feeding areas so that the dominant dragon doesn't hog. Keep an eye out for stress in a subordinant dragon, like constant hiding, not basking and poor appetite. Be prepared to separate them if necessary.

Best,
Michele

P.S. Of course, be sure of the sexes! You wouldn't be the first to be surprised by an inaccurate sex I.D.

Well here's my tank set up, and there's definatly more than one basking spot in there.
