mite problem!!!!

joshhutto Aug 29, 2004 11:10 PM

ok so i decide to get some captive hatched females. they are all between 110-140 grams. great body condition. and all but one fed on the first day. i was inspecting them a little closer today as i didn't want to stress them too much the first few days. i found mites on 3 of the 6 so i'm guessing all six probably have mites as they came from the same dealer (formerly of fort myers, fl). my problem is i've never had a snake with mites. I know there are ton's of things to do to get rid of them but what ones are actually effective and safe on the animals. i will be treating all 6 of the new animals and my previous animals just in case as they were in same room, different ends of room but i'd rather be safe then sorry 4 months down the line. please any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Go to Walmart and pick up a bottle of NIX. It's actually for human lice but works great with mites! It costs about $11. Mix this with 1 gallon of water. Pour into a spray bottle and spray Everything (The Animal The Cage *EVERYTHING*). You may want to put her in some nice fresh water to soak a bit first. This way if she is thirsty she can drink the water rather then the NIX. This will also kill off some of the mites! I got this recipe from Ben Siegal himself. I've used it once (the only time I've actually had mites) and will always use it if the time comes up again (which I hope it doesn't!). Good luck! *Mites are easy to get rid of*

Josh I myself use it and Ben Siegel use it. I didn't notice any bad effects.

AMEN to NIX. Used 2x in ten years. They were gone almost instantly. Never had to repeat a treatment.
