Over eating BP??

graycat274 Aug 30, 2004 08:02 AM

I adopted a female sub adult from a guy who couldn't keep her. She was 795g the day I got her, on July 1. He said he was feeding her f/k small rats once a week and she never refused a meal. That seemed a bit often to me, so I changed her to f/k small rat every 10-14 days. She eats like she starving - so fast in fact that when I drop the rat in, it seems like she catches it mid air!
She weighed 852g on July 27 and now she's 900g and about to shed again.
Is she being over fed? Under fed? I've never had a BP eat so much and gain so much in such a short period of time.

Any suggestions?

Let her eat if she wants to eat. She's still a small animal growing fast as you can see. Sometimes Balls take a break from eatting, so feed them up while they are feeding. I usually feed on a once a week schedual. A small rat is also pretty small for that size of a ball python. She could easily take mediums. I have some 1290 gram females (after the last 2 meals they are no longer 1290 grams) taking colossals and still looking for more!
