re-freezing mice after defrosted, should it be done?

amdek Aug 30, 2004 10:09 AM

Hi I tried to feed my new ball the yesterday, but he is still stressed out and not interested. Is it o.k. to put a mouse back into the freezer after it has already been defrosted? Seems like a waste to throw it away after he refused it...

thanks!
Mike

I try not to refreeze mice. Bacteria have already started to break down the mouse so I wouldn't exactly want my snake eating a further deteriorated mouse next time.

` It would REALLY be a waste if it harmed your snake. Since you aren't a lab, there's only one way to find out, and it ain't worth it.
` I treat my snake's food the same as mine. If in doubt, throw it out!

You can usually tell if its spoiled or not. Wasting 4 or 5 dollars is nothing compared to a $200 vet bill you could recieve if your snake gets sick. I only have this view towards my animals.... I've eaten pizza that has sat out for weeks.

I have refrozen mice before but only after it's been out for a little while. Like under 1/2 hour. If my snakes don't eat their meal right away I take it away and refreeze it ONCE. If they haven't eaten it the second try then I trash it. Better to be safe then sorry.
