Questions about Poss. Het Pieds.....

boachick85 Aug 30, 2004 11:49 AM

Is belly striping near the tail a good way to determine if a poss. het pied is infact a het pied? Do all 100% het pieds have belly striping? If a poss. het pied clutch hatches, are the babies with belly striping more likely to be hets? Could some people post pics of poss. het bellies and 100% het bellies? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks!

Here is a pic of a poss. het pied male I may get. Do you think he has mor of a chance of being het because of his belly striping?

Apparently plenty of for sure hets don't have it. I don’t have a good explanation of why it should show up in some lines of hets and not in others.

Mine are all possible hets so I haven't personally proven anything. However it stands out as so different from nomal and I've seen it passed to half the offspring so I'm pretty confident in it. Some claim to see it in varying numbers of assumed normals. I'd like to see some pics to see if we are really talking about the same thing or not. I don't deny that there might be a few non-het for pied with the same belly but I don't think it would be very many and it might not be more than the number of hets you would expect from the wild at random.

Here is a pic of three 25% chance hets I'm growing up. The biggest one isn't positioned right to see the lines on the black edge lines on the last third of her white belly.

IMHO the possible het you posted is most likely a het.

I just re-read that the possible het you posted is one you are considering buying. Since you didn't produce it your self you have to trust the seller that it really is a possible het. I would check the seller out on the other site and perhaps follow up references as to the source of this possible het (i.e. was it produced by someone who really owns pied blood). Given that you can now buy a 100% het pied male for like $350 from reliable sources there isn't much use risking much money or time to buy a possible het that might be a ch look-alike for het pied. If you can buy it for normal ch price or a little more well documented cb from a pied line but can't afford the for sure het then go for it.

The guy thats selling it said it comes with full documentation and was produced by Peter Kahl. Where could I get a 100$ het for $350? The cheapest I've seen them for is $600 for a '04 male. Please let me know. I could probably afford $350. Thanks!

Call Pete Kahl, he may sell you a 100% het male for $350. I have also seen them at this price of $350 for males. Ian G. is also another guy to try, and is 100% trustworthy.

Alan bosch had male hets for $350 shipped, i bought last one but he may have some more hatching and check the classifieds multiple times a day as snakes at these prices go very quickly since most are charging 450-600 average prices. hope i helped

2.0 het pied
1.1 het albino
1.7 normal
1.0 american pit bull terrior
1.1 damn taco dogs (ankle biters)
1.0 grey cat

a BAD dog is MADE not bred, support the American Pit Bull Terrior as the greatest breed of dogs on Earth!!!!!

bachman Aug 30, 2004 01:18 PM

I have a het albino that has it, but not as long as the ones in the pics. I also have some normals (as far as I know) that have it also, but again, not as drastic as the ones in the pics, the bellies on my animals that have it are not clear either. As soon as I figure out how to get the pics from place to place I will take some, and post them.

Someone in FL claimed that 1/4 to 1/2 of the imports have it but I'm thinking that no where near that many have the full blown white belly with the solid black lines far enough out to leave all three belly scales between them. Of course I've also seen variations in quality in my 25% chance hets that I think have it so it's not a perfect system by any means.
