ig vs. k9

I rescued a miniature bull terrier from my local humane society several months ago and have been trying desperatly to get Luke, my ig, used to the idea of having a dog around the house. Luke is used to being able to roam around the house whenever I am at home, but ever since Lucy, the dog, joined the family, i can't let him out to roam around. Lucy is fine with having an ig around, but Luke FREAKS OUT. he starts running into walls and going NUTS! I feel so bad making him stay in his cage all the time! I feel like a real jerk. The poor guy hasn't seen the sun in weeks. I need some helpfull advise, any would be greatly appreciated!!!!

i would set a a time to put the dog away soemwhere in a room or crate. and spend some time with your ig without the pup around. the ig might not like the dog because it has noiticed that since the dog came he has not been out as much. my igs get jelous of each other all the time. i have to make sure they all get the love they need. good luck. hope i helped at least a little

...that they need to get used to each other's smells. Rub your dog with one washcloth and your iguana with another, and then put the dog washcloth in with the iguana and vice versa.

I have also heard that iguanas are especially afraid of dogs (as opposed to cats, hampsters, other humans) because dogs strongly resemble one of the natural predators of iguanas in the wild.

Give it time, things will settle down. The less you react to the situation the faster things will settle as well. I've got 4 large dogs, and Tempest has become quite accustomed to them. When I was dog-sitting, even though I still had only 4 dogs (had one out showing) Tempest absolutely recognized it was a different dog even though it was the same breed and looked similar the one I had out showing. Once they realize they are all part of the same "family", things should calm down.
