Still not eating

snooky113 Aug 30, 2004 05:41 PM

Well my female leo is still not eating,we went to the vet on fri. He gave her something for parasites and to stimulate her appetite. He told me not to feed her until sat. 2 crix. Did not eat sat or sun. Her temps are good 88 and 80, she has water, 2 hides, 1 moist hide and calcium. It's been around 6 days with no crix. She has been getting jumpstart. I need some suggestions on what to try next. What else could it be other than parasites that would make her stop eating suddenly. She has not been the same since her last shed. Can her skin she eats cause her to become impacted? Please help.

have you tried other feeders? I've heard of leos suddenly becoming picky eaters. Are her poops regular? aside from being smaller than usual

If you think its impaction you can always give them a warm bath. There's no harm in soaking them in water for about 15 mins.

No sign of poop, soaked her tonight. At about 8 pm she started like doing some kind of jitterbug deal, raising up the going down to her belly, shaking her front legs and walking forward and backwards. Really freakin me out!

huh shaking limbs?

The vet couldn't find anything wrong with her?
Has she lost weight or simply stopped eating?

Just stopped eating, lost 2 grams. He didnt see any obvious signs of illness because she is so young, but he gave her some medication and sent us home.

I am not sure about the shaking part, but sometimes the deworming medicine can also kill off the good bacteria needed for digestion. Maybe try increasing the temperature at the warm end to 92F, add a bit of probiotics (such as NutriBAC, reptoboost, etc) to her water dish. Make sure you keep her well hydrated.

Is that a reptile vet that you brought her to? I once took a juvenille to a non-reptile vet, he did the wrong calculation on dosages, and gave my leo an overdose of baytril which almost killed him!
