I Knew Rats Make good Mom's............

LuvThemReptiles Aug 30, 2004 09:10 PM

I feed my Garter snake pinkie Mice. The Reptile store was out of pinks so I bought A fuzzy Mouse. Well my Garter had nothing to do with it even after I sented it with A nightcrawler, I tried putting him in his snake bag with the fuzzy over night no dice. So I didnt know what to do with the little fuzzy. I have no other snakes that take fuzzy's, So I took it in the palm of my hand and showed my best breeder Rat "Bubbles", She took it from my hand and put it with her week old babies and started grooming it and has been nursing and taking care of the little fuzzy since. Anyone else ever hear of A mama Rat taking in An orphan mouse?

wow, cool story! I once had a female rat mother who I was planning on feeding off to my ball python, but she still had two babies nursing. On a gamble, I put the two babies with another nursing mother rat, and she accepted them like it was nothing.
Rats sure are great mothers. Ever get bitten by one?
