Will my bulb poison my dragons??

turtlequest Aug 30, 2004 10:36 PM

A while back i used a Rep Pro 60 watt uvb self ballasted mercury vapor bulb on my Beardie and i she looked dead for a minute, started convulsing and snapped back to life. I was told i was poisoning her with to much UV. Since then, my BD has grown ALOT. She was only a month old then, now she is about 7 months old. I also have another BD with her.

I was using Rep Cal dust everyday on them instead of the UV lighting. They seem to be very healthy. My 65 watt spot lamp burned out today, and i won't be able to get another bulb for a couple days.

Will that bulb that i had poison my dragons again? Please let me know.

I've never heard of a bulb poisoning a beardie. I'm assuming that they meant too much D3 since that's what UVB bulbs help produce. No UVB bulb puts off anywhere near what the sun does though so I don't see that any of them would be a problem.. If someone knows different correct me.

Ok, but if i use the bulb, do i still have to dust my crix with Rep-Cal? If so, how often should i dust(with the bulb running all day)

Thanks.

On a 7 month old I'd dust every other feeding.
