Albert's filling out!!!

girliegirl Jun 25, 2003 10:48 AM

Took new pics of Albert last night. He is looking so handsome. You can't see all of his bones anymore!! His head has started filling out and looking normal. He looks a little blue in the pic due to the UVB bulb that is right over his head. Is it possible to tell his sex yet? My pics aren't that good, but he isn't a very cooperative poser either. He hates sitting still and is always on the move.

This is after 3 1/2 weeks w/me. You can also see the before pics in my gallery.

Later,
Carrie

Thought you might want to see how yucky it looks. I also checked out his other toes and a few more of them don't look so hot. His front toes are okay though.

Sorry, it's gross.

...what would you do again John a/k/a Mr. Clippy? Oh wait!! It's coming back now...snip it, I mean clip it right?? LOL Have patience my darling. If it doesn't go on it's own soon, I'll have to intervene nature and help it along. I'm going to wait another week or so and see what it does (backflips, summersalts, cartwheels, etc). It looks horrible huh? And definitely dead? It's getting blacker and blacker too. Thanks for all the advice.

Can't wait to see what he looks like in another 3 1/2 weeks. Hopefully as fat and happy as my beardies!

Look a few posts down under the heading:
Wanna see some vents?

You can see pictures of a couple girl vents and boy vents.

I would guess that the subjects are a bit younger than your Albert, but the same principle applies.

Telling the genders is subtle if you haven't done it before, but I guessed right on my lizards, according to the folks here that responded.

Good luck, keep up the good work!

....understanding NOW with these simple tips LOL. While the black spot (or spots) on either side of the vent are usually present in females, I *hear* this can occasionally fail as a reliable means of sexing. Using the coloration of the body as a guide is even less reliable. The best way I know of is to look for the row of enlarged *post-anal* scales directly behind (and aligned with) the vent slit.

--> Enlarged scales = male

Pretty obvious once you have seen them; Look for them in the photos you posted of your "boy" and you will see the difference. Never have to guess again! Probably doesn't apply to C. binctores; nothing else seems to LOL. (just kidding)
