pacman voracious eater - some more than others

mrpacman Aug 31, 2004 11:13 AM

I bought a green pacman and the minute I put him in a tank he started eating every live animal in sight - not shy at all and very aggressive. Now, I also bought another pacman from petco (albino) and i noticed these do not eat as aggressively as the other one - i've never seen it eat in person. Does anyone know how to train them to eat more aggressively, or does it all depend on the character of the frog since birth?

u could feed with tongs that way it will start to assosiate the tongs with food and will quickly learn its dinner time, good way to see it eat and know exactly what its getting, no feeders left running about tank stressing frog, less chance of injesting substrate..........etc

moral of the story, use tongs :P

Some of my horned frogs have been "private feeders." They won't eat in front of you, they won't take the food from tongs. I had one frog for years until I finally caught it in the act of eating. Some frogs are just like that. Mine never changed.

I don't know why you bought a frog from Petco, but good luck with it. The only time I tried to buy a frog from Petco it already had red leg. They are absolutely the WORST place to buy from, IMO.

Except for the small frogs, who get a few crickets dumped into the tank so they can eat at their leisure, I use the tongs method. This has been highly effective for me, and not just with "pac-man frogs".
Strangely. My "private" eaters. Came from Petco.
I learned that lesson fast enough. Have'nt bought anything that lives from Petco since.
All my frogs came from frog specialists at shows.
And all are mad dogs! As far as changing the character of the frog. The tongs method might work, but you might never be able to change, what mother nature already hard wired.
Give it a try though, if it does'nt work, you can always use the tongs for something else...like deep pickle jars or something?
Good Luck
