I just called a local pet shop and asked them how much their mealworms are. They asked what animal I had. I told them, and they said that they don't recommend feeding mealworms to Leopards because they have seen more than one Gecko where the mealworm ate a hole through the mealworm(from the inside out! EWWW!!) Has anyone ever heard of this? Everything I have read has said keep mealworms available all the time. Any ideas?

yea, thats a load, because 1: stomach acids will kill it, and 2: my gecko doesn't always swllow them, he sometimes spits them out, and whenever he does, its always dead, they die in the mastication process

I have had the same thing happen to me! they guy said he wouldnt sell them to me unless i was feeding it to a bird! lol, so I went back 10 min later and said I had a love bird, funny thing is I dont have any idea if lovebirds even eat meal worms, and neither did he!

next time they tell you that, call Bull Sh*t on them, and ask for proof! if they dont provide it, have a little bit of fun with them! Procede to ask them if they believe in other urban legends (because thats all it is!) like checking in the backseat of cars for axe murders, pop rocks and coke ect..., infact bring a bottle of coke, and a package of pop rocks with you, and bet the pet store worker that if you can down the coke and the pop rocks and Not have your stomach explode (trust me it woant i've tryed it!) he will give you the meal worms....

Too funny! After I read that its basically BS on Dr. Gecko, I'm going to go into the Pet Shop and ask the manager if he teaches his people to lie to paying customers. She said she has "seen" the mealworm burrow out. I have her name, so we'll see what happens!

I do have to say that I am proud to hear of a petstore worker who cared for the wellbeing of the animal, even though it was based on rumors rather than fact. I have seen store clerks that would sell marine fish to people who stated they only had a freshwater tank.
