Double-Het nomemclature i.e ''Het-Snow''

medusah Aug 31, 2004 01:51 PM

Are double mutations simple recessive? If I bred a Het-Snow X Het-Snow, I would expect theoretically 25% snow's right? and then we have Double-Hets that would produce 1 of 16 odds for a double mutations.

If I understand genetics correctly, double mutations aren't simple recessive!

Why are the big guns calling them Het-snow when in fact, all double mutation project should be called double-hets?

Ralph Davis, Tracy Barker and others using this nomemclature, please explain?

Thanks

If I bred a Het-Snow X Het-Snow

You mean a double het snow X double het snow.
Yes they are simple recessive. They are made by albino x axanthic crossing.
no it would be one in sixteen for a snow.
Now if it is an albino or axanthic het for snow then you would have different and better odds.

when something is called Albino het for snow. It is just an albino het for axanthic. the breeders do that so people who aren't the best with genetics (in 7th grade i learned much more complicated things than double recessives) know that they can produce snow.
