So California Lower Desert area

socalherper Aug 31, 2004 05:10 PM

Has anyone been to Anza Borrego, Palm springs areas lately.
It is real hot during the day (low 100's).
At night it is in the 70's most of the night ....

Has anyone tried these areas yet in these months?

I've been out and around the Palm Springs area with some semi-good results. Most of my sightings have been late-night to early-morning. Banded Geckos, Leafnoses, Glossys, Longnoses, and 1 Desert Rosy to top my list. Will be out again this Friday night.

If anyone would like to hookup sometime:

A rosy this time of year--that's great, congrats. Was it an early morn find and do you know what temps were at the time?

My wife and I are staying in Palm Dessert and while she is at the spa I am going to hike in the Santa Rosa mountains. I've never been there and I am going to try the Horse Theives Creek or something like that on Sunday morning. I'd love to know if there is another early morning hike that might be more productive. I'd be open to meeting up with anyone who doesn't mind a good hike.

It might be closed this time of your due to the heat and lack of tourists, but I've always enjoyed going to the Indian Canyons (Andreas and Palm Canyons). Its Indian land where you pay $5 buck or so to enter. However, it is well worth the money, and the creek and Palm Oasis will be a relief from the desert heat. Its located in Palm Springs.

I was out in whitewater on Monday night. It's still slow out there. It was probably in the upper eighties, not to mention a full moon, but I managed to spot a huge scorpion as well as a goreous medium-sized speckled. I'll probably try again with the new moon...

Thanks for the input.

I may just have to pull a late nighter on the new moon.
