Help!! snake skin problem....

sw55413 Jun 25, 2003 11:27 AM

Hi. --Just wondering if anyone has ever seen their snake develop a sort of reddish tinge under it's belly scales. I have a jungle carpet python, and I thought I might ask some of you experienced keepers before I run her over to the vet. Any help is appreciated greatly. Thanks!

I've never had it happen, but from reading other posts it sounds like a burn, maybe? UTH too hot?

Many snakes get this sort of pinkish to their abdominal scales when they are preparing to shed.

Just to be safe, get a thermometer and check the temps of the warm spots on the substrate to make sure it isn't a burn.

Occasionally is a snake has an irritated ventral surface from being in a wet substrate they will develop this as well, but I suspect it is just a harbinger of an upcoming shed cycle.
