K first I wouldn't recomend feeding FBN crickets, cause of bad roumers, I used to feed mine frozen brineshrimp and bloodworms. You can also try small feeder guppies (you may need to kill them first). Id try the same for your toad but not sure if it'll work as ive never owned a FBT.

Yeah, crickets are not a good diet for FBN. Feed them blood worms alive or freeze dried as their staple diet. Waxworms are high in nutrients, but they digest VERY fast and will fly through an amphibians digestive system giving them a poor chance of catching a lot of nutrients. This is not true with most lizards however which leads many pet stores to believe amphibians are the same way.

1) Why do you think crickets are a bad food item for newts as long as the crickets are the proper size?

2) wax worms are high in fat. What nutrients are you referring to? They are often passed in amphibians looking as if they are undigested as the skin does not digest. If this is a concern then cut a small hole in the wax worm and then feed it to the newt. These are best fed to the newt off of tweezers.

Frozen foods are better than freeze dried as more of the nutrition is available to the animals (with live being the best).
