New Borneo, Oden.

axwielding1 Aug 31, 2004 06:59 PM

I purchased Oden July 10, and was told he ate a rat pup every other week. He refused the first rat pup I tried, then ate a fuzzy mouse on the 7/24. He hasn't eaten since, so it's been almost 5 weeks. He's thin, but seems well, active at night, moves about as normal, just won't eat. Temps are 80-85, humidity is 60-90%. I had a sumatran borgersmai that was a pain to start, but once started she never stopped eating. This one has me puzzled. In a 20 gal. tank, on reptile felt, moist box, 2 hides plus a wet rag (additional humidity and hide), 2 water dishes, a heat pad under half(not needed now) and a 60watt black bulb(night) I tried live/F/k , rat pup/fuzzy mouse, night/day, chicken fat, bacon fat (worked for my last one)..Nothing.
He nudges it away. I have his tank covered on all sides, and the top half covered. Any thoughts/adjustments?

there are several ways sometimes the snake would prefer you to put it by the hide box that it is in and leave it alone for 15 mins or play with the mouse in front of it thats what I do I wringle it very little in front of my sumatran and it takes me 5 to 10 mins sometimes but most often like a min or 2 its all about patients and time. hope this helps unless you already tried this method then let me know

If you keep having problems, feel free to email me with your phone number and I will tell you how I assist feed. Don't want the animal to get to weak. Best of luck with your Borneo, I just love them....... greenman38@sbcglobal.net

Hey Axe,sorry to hear that.I know you tried everything, but did you try leaving the dead prey overnight. Also I would change the subtrate to orchid bark,or something they can bury themselves in.Most times baby bloods like to bury themselves in only leaving their heads out,It makes them feel more secure.I also tape newpaper or a use a dark towel to cover the tank, for ultimate security,so no one could look in or out of the cage.Only till they start eating or get acclimated.GOOD LUCK!

Biggworm, Yes,I have left the f/k prey outside the hide overnight. I also have the tank covered on all sides. Today I put orchid chip in the tank and misted it well, we'll see if that helps.. Thanks for the input...
