anyone have any advice?

does anyone live in louisiana that chats on this forum?
I would really appreciate any advice availible. I'm going to be in lafayette louisiana in a few weeks, can anyone give me some tips as to where to look for snakes or where to do some road cruising? I'm new to the area and would appreciate some advice from someone local. I know the temps will be pretty hot when I arrive ( around 10am) but I hope that flipping tin or road cruising later in the day may bring me some luck. I going to call the local DNR but their advice is ussually sketchy.
Thanks Chris

I don't live in LA, but I live about the same latitude in east TX.

Flipping stuff in midsummer is largely ineffective. You can find somethings by flipping trash early in the morning or late at night. Walking along creeks and roadside ditches in the morning can also produce some things.

Road hunting is probably the most effective strategy at this time of year. Get a good map or road atlas and search for small quiet roads out of town that pass near swamps, etc. They are often productive for snakes. If you find one that doesn't really go anywhere, you are more likely to be picking a quiet road. It doesn't have to be paved either.
