Hi
I have a Albino Pac Man frog we purchase him in June and since them he has been healthy and eathing. Then on Sunday my daughter brought him in the room crying because he was not moving I help him his eyes were opening but he was not moveing so I rub under his neck and he came back all this time he ate right after I revived him. Then again today he did the same thing it took me at 30 seconds to bring him back then about 2 hours later I went to check on him and this time his eyes were push in and it took me 45 seconds to bring him back and he just did again around 10:25 again does anybody know what is wrong or do they not breath when they hiberate he is a little less active now I am really worried Thanks for anybody help it is appreciated Thanks Dianne

He is probably just trying to brumate. They shut their eyes and basically all functions to a large degree. If you are still worried, you can take it to a herp/exotics vet.

It is the term most associated with reptile/amphibian "hibernation"

What kind of substrate are you using? Many times they will brumate randomly throughout the year, but sometimes they brumate due to dry weather or improper temperatures. If you want the frog to come back up, just mist the tank heavily for a few days and the frog should be back up in a few days.

Before you spend too much time rubbing the frog's throat, you may wish to read the above thread "PacMan Warning." I'd hate to hear of an "incident."

Oh, and mine is tending to brumate right now as our area is about 100 degrees and best efforts keep the house 75 to 80. Like they say, if it is not losing body mass, it's OK. After the incident in "PacMan Warning," he immediately burrowed in and tried to pretend the world didn't exist -- he'll be back for food soon enough. The misting advice works well too.

Hi Thanks for the warning mine does not seen to be interested in biting people maybe I got a tame one but I will watch it anyway he is back to normal now thanks god Thanks for leaving the post it is appreciated Thanks DIanne

It isn't that they want to bite people, it is that something is introduced that could be a potential prey item. It will especially happen if you are trying to feed the frog as they get in a frenzy. After they see a food item, many will attack anything that moves. I have heard of many cases where a fake plant has been moved by the frog itself and is then promptly swallowed as it was mistaken for a food item. It is a concern for any horned frog keeper, and never doubt for a second that if the frog is hungry and in feeding mode, it will not try to get your finger/tongs/anything else that moves.
