The igs will sense the hurricane's approach and hopefully find good places to hunker down and hang on. My green igs wedged themselves in their enclosures when Hurricane Floyd came through a couple of years ago - even though they were inside. They didn't come out until it was safe.
they will survive it like they have for millions of years. However with the populations smaller it could have a huge effect if there was some loss.
Mine here on the west coast can sense the drop in pressure too and usually stay inside their boxes during rain even whan they are indoors with proper temps available
Hi, perhaps some of the pros can comment on my comment about this. I think that this hurricane is not nearly as big a problem as the humans are. They can withstand a hurricane like they have forever. Humans are a much bigger problem.

Pros? I am no pro but I dont think it needs one to aggree that people have and will have a greater effect on the cyclura populations. Because of human expansion the cyclura are pushed out, numbers are so low in places that a big storm could wipe out a species. What if a head start facility got destroyed? At the same time its people that can save them too.
People and their animals are a much greater problem, however animals on low-elevation islands are a concern. Luckily, our crew got the boat out of the water and escaped to the US before it hit the TCI. Luckily there is no headstart facility there, but I will be curious to see how our repatriated populations do.
Thanx for the update Jeff! Glad to hear you made it safely away.
I think everyone understands that people & feral animals have been/are the long term problem. As was pointed out in several posts, they have survived hurricanes for eons.
As was also mentioned, these are low elevation islands. They were expecting up to 15 foot storm surges. That kind of water can wash completely over some of the cays (islands) on which some of the smaller populations live. Some repatriation is also occurring on smaller cays as well. That was more the thrust of the original post.
In the can't leave well enough alone department... now Ivan is heading along the same path as Frances.
