Sonora, Mexico boa hypos, is this real or just another wish-hypo line?

RioBravoReptiles Sep 01, 2004 08:31 AM

.. I guess it is the real deal!

A few years ago a friend gave me a nice orange hypo-looking female Sonoran boa. This year I decided to breed her and she did breed with a normal, unrelated Sonoran male. She gave a large perfect bunch of babies and about half of them look like this..

Thanks Gus, that one is a beauty!
I also have heard of this and was wondering...

I saw one person in Daytona selling them for about $300 each, and then I bought 5 from someone on a table not too far away for $40 each.
To me, they looked the same.

Please post what the 'normals' look like.. a comparison would be great!

Thanks much!
Joe Rollo - BciJoe

PS-By the way, can I send you a small down payment now, atleast just to reserve that one animal we discussed in Daytona that wasn't quite ready yet? Thanks again

But I'm unsure if you want to find out more about these or just see if you scored big in Daytona!

Below is a photo of the litter at birth, it is easy to tell even then which are going to be normals and which are hypo.. I sold every one of the normals to a reseller so cannot give you a current pic.

I think it is safe to say that there is something going on..

Laugh it up now... but realise that to me, the value of a boa is mainly a factor of how many there are, how easy it is to breed them and how many babies do they have..

If I have 'gone over' as you suggest then you had best get your money out of your special projects quick.. $50.00 albino boas (retail) are on the way..

Anyway, you guys can still own the Salmontine/Carpondro/Surombian/Hogduran markets.. that I have zero interest in whatsoever.

Be safe!

I was merely teasing you a bit gus. The value of a boa to isn't factored by anything more than it's natural beauty. This includes ssp purity.

>>If I have 'gone over' as you suggest then you had best get your money out of your special projects quick.. $50.00 albino boas (retail) are on the way..

Again, seems you took that seriously, you could send me a free albino, and I would pay out of my own pocket to return it.
By implying that you had gone over, I was just joking.

Lighten up, my joke wasn't an attack at your integrity, or convictions about boas. Just the subtle irony of you coming across some morphs.
I own pure surinames and guyanas only... maybe now it comes across light heartedly?

Since I worded it with plenty of 'seems', question marks, unserious undertones, and words of the like, there is plenty of room for GUS to let me know.

It did seem to me he missed the jist of my post, but maybe not. I'm sure he will let me know one way or the other.

I'm not sure you know how I took it however.

I understand.. I just think the tone of your reply seemed a bit defensive, especially with all the quotes..
I also don't think Gus will bother trying to 'defend' himself, especially if there is nothing to defend.

Gus is a regular here, if not in posting, atleast in looking/reading..
I know the animals you keep and I would think he does too.

So this is particularly why I don't believe his comments were geared towards you...

I actually own some Salmontines and Hypo Hoggs, so I would think I should've gotten upset about his comments, atleast more than you, but I didn't because everyone has the right to their own opinions.. likes and dislikes..

Nothing personal , just my opinions..

Thanks and take care, joe

I wasnt upset by anything, I left the quotes just because I wanted to reply section by section. I am failing to see how it concerns you though.

And your explanations are equally confusing to me. Yes I know Gus is a regular as are you, I'm not sure of your point.

I couldn't be happier about your salmonites and hypo Hogs, in so much that YOU own them and YOU like them... again I don't see what your purpose is here.

I only assumed his comments in response to mine would be geared towards me, as is generally the case when responding to a particular post. Starting a new topic would be adressing everyone. I didnt assume any ill will wich it appears you implying??

I never implied Gus should 'defend' himself, merely that he doesnt need a mommy, even if the situation were one of any kind of quarrel.

So, about those hypo sonorans...

and man they sure look like hypos to me. Compared to my normal Sonoran's they are a night and day difference. I'll post pics one of these days. Best,

Heres a pic of what I think is a Super Hypo Sonoran.
Like Gus I too bred a Hypo Sonoran to a Normal and got the same results ( Half Hypos Half normals ) But I also bred a Hypo to Hypo and got a few Super Hypos.
Heres a pic.
